Our History
Initial funding was provided by a family charitable trust through the Nicholas Hammond Foundation (NHF) . Disappointed with the disproportionately few women in the investment management industry, the donor gave NHF £70,000 to start up a portfolio initially advised by women and non-binary students at Clare.
What makes us unique:
-
Upholding diversity
We envision diversity not just in terms of fostering a safe space for traditionally underrepresented gender groups, but also through expanding our outreach to students of different fields: Geography, psychology, natural sciences, architecture etc. We eagerly invite them to join our discussion on finance and economics.
-
Buy-side focused
We prioritise partnering with buy-side firms, such as endowment funds and asset management firms. This is because many students tend to have less exposure to buy-side finance, and as one of the largest student-managed funds, we want to use our unique advantage to bridge this information and resources gap.
-
Learning by doing
We understand the finance industry's high requirements for soft and hard skills. To better bridge the gap between industry and academia, we invite industry experts to hold simulations and organise weekly training sessions. All our analysts have the opportunity to present to investment professionals from the Nicolas Hammond Fund.
Many of our past analysts now work in finance, both on the buy-side and sell-side, notably Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, PJT Partners, BlackRock, CVC Capital Partners, Permira and many more leading firms. Some go into consulting, such as McKinsey &, Strategy &, ERM, etc.
No matter where they are, they continue to be impactful female voices.
